Xavi's Legacy Shines Through in Spanish National Team Selections.

Xavi Hernandez may no longer be the coach of Barcelona, but his impact on the club is undeniable and lasting. The latest Spanish National Team call-up for the Euros underscores this legacy.

Rising Stars from Xavi's Era

Luis de la Fuente's selection for the European Championships includes familiar names like Pedri and Ferran Torres, but also highlights three players who made their debuts under Xavi: Fermin Lopez, Pau Cubarsi, and Lamine Yamal. While the final squad list is pending, it's expected that all three will make the cut and potentially play significant roles in Germany.

The Olympic Dilemma

Spain faces a scheduling challenge with the Olympic Games starting just ten days after the Euro finale. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is considering including Barcelona youngsters Cubarsi and Lopez in both the Euros and the Olympics. Unlike Yamal, who is anticipated to be a starter in the European Championships, Cubarsi and Lopez are expected to play more prominent roles in the Olympics in Paris.

Changes in Olympic Format

This year's Olympic football tournament is likely to feature a new format. Previously, teams could only have 18 players, with four additional replacements allowed only in case of serious injuries. The new rules may permit teams to call up 22 players, with 18 selected for each game and the remaining four not eligible as substitutes for that game.

Barcelona's Concerns

If Cubarsi and Lopez participate in the Olympics, they will miss the start of Barcelona's next season. Ensuring their fitness will be a priority for the club as they balance national and club commitments.
