Victor Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli's Scudetto triumph, contributing 26 goals and five assists to the historic victory, which came 33 years after Diego Maradona led the team to glory.
However, Osimhen's impressive performances haven't gone unnoticed by European giants. During the summer, PSG, Real Madrid, Bayern, Arsenal, and Manchester United all expressed varying degrees of interest in signing him. Despite the pressure, Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis held firm, keeping his star striker at the club.
This season, Napoli's campaign hasn't started as they hoped, with the team currently in sixth place, trailing Inter and Milan by four points after six games. Osimhen's relationship with coach Rudi Garcia and the club has also been strained.
An incident occurred during a match against Bologna when Osimhen was substituted with the score tied at 0-0, and he missed a penalty. Napoli's TikTok post about the missed penalty led to Osimhen's representative, Roberto Calenda, threatening legal action.
While the situation has somewhat calmed following a win over Udinese in which Osimhen ended his goal drought, the atmosphere isn't ideal for contract negotiations. Osimhen's current deal runs until 2025, and amid this uncertainty, he revealed his preference for Barcelona.
"I've always had a special place in my heart for Barcelona, especially because of Samuel Eto'o. They were my favorite team when I was young, and they still are," Osimhen stated.
