Luis Enrique explained his decision about Gaya .

The Valencia left back was thought to be fit enough to play in their second group game on Sunday against Germany despite sustaining a light ankle sprain during training on Wednesday. However, Gaya was sent home in a shocking decision, and Barcelona's Alejandro Balde was called up in her place.

Gaya underwent tests when he got back to Spain, and they found that the injury would have kept him out for only 7 to 10 days.It poured scorn on Spain coach Luis Enrique and his team for sending him home.

The only position I can't wait for anyone to take is left back. There is no one who can accommodate our requests.

The player would be in this position if it were in another position. However, these are two distinct men who possess the qualities necessary to play there.

Jose Gaya is a phenomenon and an excellent person with whom I get along well.I must prioritize the team over my feelings because I feel it in my soul.

The fact that the Spain medical staff considered it to be an injury lasting between 10 and 15 days rather than 7 to 10, which could mean the difference between winning one and possibly two games, is perhaps the most important information.

Luis Enrique explained his decision prior to their match with Costa Rica.

"I must make choices. He would still be here if it were up to my heart, but I have to face those choices head-on.

He was out of two games and had an injury that lasted between 10 and 15 days.I have to do my best for the team because I am the coach for the entire nation.
