Veteran defender Inigo Martinez is determined to stay at Barcelona even if his registration with the team is not guaranteed, according to Mundo Deportivo journalist Gabriel Sanz.
The 33-year-old Martinez does not seem concerned about the ongoing discussions about his future at Barcelona.
His contract runs until 2025 and he has no plans to leave the club before then. In fact, he is said to be currently focused on returning to training, scheduled for the week of July 8.
However, due to salary cap restrictions, his situation will need to be clarified when the 2024-2025 registration period begins.
Now he needs to re-register to continue playing. Sources close to him say he is confident of being re-registered and is not considering a move elsewhere, despite interest from the Middle East.
Despite Martinez's confidence, there is uncertainty within Barcelona, especially from coach Hansi Flick, due to an oversupply of central defenders.
The 33-year-old enjoyed the trust of former manager Xavi, who appreciated his leadership qualities, but injuries limited his playing time.
