Barcelona are in big competition to sign Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain.

According to a report from Gabriel Sanz of Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are in big competition to sign Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain.

The big four clubs Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City have approached PSG to either acquire or loan out the young attacking midfielder.

Interestingly, PSG is not interested in selling the midfielder.

It is worth noting that Simons played for RB Leipzig last season, meaning that the majority of the transfer fee from any sale until 2025 would go to his former club PSV Eindhoven.

Due to this financial arrangement, PSG would rather loan him than sell him outright.

Barcelona on a playing restriction

PSG's sporting management would like to add Simons to manager Luis Enrique's squad.  Nevertheless, Barcelona are currently restricted by Financial Fair Play rules set by La Liga and are currently unable to make any major financial transactions.

Because of this, Simons has decided to wait until after the European Championships to make a decision about his future.

In recent weeks, Barcelona have begun to give up hope on Simons, realising that they cannot compete financially with other interested European clubs.

Simmons has long dreamed of returning to Barcelona, but the financial constraints of FC Barcelona and the intense competition from other clubs are making that dream increasingly unattainable.

Furthermore, the acquisition of an attacking midfielder is not currently one of Barcelona's priorities in the transfer market; they are instead focusing on a defensive midfielder and a left winger, positions that are considered more important to the team's needs.

Even if Barcelona were to make these priority transfers, they would face the challenge of complying with the one-for-one rule and Financial Fair Play regulations.

These rules require the club to maintain a balanced budget, further complicating any chance of signing Simmons.
