All set to stay at Napoli Kvaratskhelia

Khvica Kvaratskheria's future was uncertain just a month ago, especially after a disappointing season in which Napoli finished 10th in the league.

It was a disappointing result for Napoli, barely a year after the Partenopei stunned everyone by winning the league with Kvaratskheria playing a key role.

Of course, it was expected that the Georgian international would move to a bigger club, and Barcelona were one of the clubs ready to take advantage of this market opportunity.

But throughout this month, Napoli's powerful president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been trying hard to convince Kvaratskheria to stay at the club, despite offers from multiple European giants.

To everyone's surprise, it seems De Laurentiis has achieved that feat, with Il Mattino (h/t Diario SPORT) reporting that Kvaratsheria is close to signing a contract extension with Napoli. The report adds that Kvaratsheria has reached an agreement in principle on a new contract with Napoli, which could come into effect after the current European Championship.

Barcelona will be unhappy with Kvaratsheria's new contract with Napoli, especially considering that the player's agent acknowledged the Catalan side's interest earlier this year.

However, it is important to remember that Kvaratsheria was never a realistic option for Barcelona this summer.

Amid the transfer frenzy, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis made it clear that any club wanting to sign Kvaratsheria would have to pay at least €100 million.

Such an amount would never be possible for Barca in the current economic situation. The Blaugrana will therefore likely continue to develop and try to land a more realistic target such as Nico Williams, who can be acquired for around €60 million.
